Role Overview:
We are looking for a part-time Subtitle QA Specialist to review and enhance Urdu-to-English subtitles for dramas, films, and long-form video content.
You will watch/listen to Urdu content and evaluate AI-generated English subtitles to ensure:
Contextual & linguistic accuracy
Cultural relevance
Correct speaker diarization
Clean line breaks and subtitle structure
Proper timing & sync with dialogue
Using our internal QA scorecard and web app, you will score each episode and fix critical subtitle issues where needed. This is a hybrid part-time role (primarily remote) with periodic online/onsite calibration and training sessions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Subtitle Evaluation (Urdu → English)
Review episodes with Urdu dialogue and English subtitles.
Assess subtitles across four key criteria:
Diarization: Correct speaker identification and consistency.
Translation & Cultural Accuracy: Meaning preservation, tone, idioms, and cultural context.
Readability (Split/Merge): Natural phrasing, clean line breaks, and readable line lengths.
Timing: Sync with dialogue, acceptable reading speed, smooth appearance/disappearance.
2. Scoring & Documentation
Use our QA tool to log:
Errors, timestamps, and short comments
Penalties based on defined rules
Provide brief episode summaries highlighting recurring issues and overall quality.
3. Smart Subtitle Fixing (English)
Rewrite or adjust English subtitles for critical/repeated issues.
Ensure subtitles are natural, idiomatic, culturally appropriate, and aligned with timing constraints.
4. Consistency, Calibration & Improvement
Follow QA guidelines, samples, and scoring logic.
Join calibration sessions to align quality standards with the team.
Flag unclear patterns, rules, or exceptions to the Lead QA.
5. Collaboration
Coordinate with project managers, translators, and editors where clarification is required.
Suggest improvements to workflows, guidelines, and criteria.
Requirements
Must-Have
Native or near-native Urdu listening comprehension.
Excellent English writing skills (natural, idiomatic, concise).
Strong understanding of Pakistani & Western cultural context.
Interest in films/TV serials (especially Western & foreign content).
Basic understanding of subtitle standards (reading speed, line breaks, timing).
Comfortable using web apps, spreadsheets, and video players.
Stable internet and a quiet workspace.
Nice-to-Have
Experience as Subtitle QA, Linguistic QA, or Language Lead.
Exposure to TV dramas or OTT-style long-form content.

Engagement Model

Hours: Flexible; based on episodes assigned per week
Compensation: Per-episode / per-minute / hourly (up to 40,000-60,000 PKR/month)
